He spoke on Thursday during the 70th birthday of his former Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, in Benin City.
Nigeria Politics Betrayals Jonathan Highlights Loyalty of Ogiadomhe
Jonathan called Ogiadomhe one of the few trusted allies who supported him when he became president.
He said, “One of the few friends that gave up their necks when I became president is Mike.”
Jonathan added, “You know politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals.”
He explained that it is difficult to find politicians who remain consistent in their words and actions.
“I’ve witnessed a lot of betrayals, especially during my 2015 elections,” Jonathan said.
Jonathan praised Ogiadomhe, stating he would “take a bullet on my behalf.”
He noted that Ogiadomhe’s word could “be taken to the bank,” unlike most politicians.
Edo Deputy Governor Idahosa Honors Ogiadomhe’s Governance Model
Edo State Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa represented Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event.
He described the foundation laid by Ogiadomhe during his tenure as deputy governor as a model still followed today.
Idahosa highlighted the long-term impact of Ogiadomhe’s policies in Edo State governance.
Former Governors Laud Ogiadomhe’s Dependability
Former governor Lucky Igbinedion said he had no hesitation leaving state affairs to Ogiadomhe while traveling abroad.
Igbinedion described Ogiadomhe as a dependable deputy whose presence ensured stability in governance.
Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor and current senator for Edo North, also praised Ogiadomhe.
Oshiomhole stated, “Wherever Jonathan is, is where he would be,” affirming political loyalty.
He commended Ogiadomhe’s wife, Louisa, for her role as a strong support system.
Nigerian Leaders Attend High-Profile Birthday Celebration
The birthday drew several dignitaries including former governors Lucky Igbinedion, Prof. Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.
Former deputy governors Rev. Peter Obadan, Pius Odubu, and Marvelous Omobayo were also present.
Chief Judge of Edo State Daniel Okungbowa attended alongside Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Hon. Blessing Agbebaku.
Members of the assembly, traditional rulers, and other notable personalities joined the celebration.
The event highlighted long-standing political alliances and loyalt within Edo State leadership.
