
Tinubu appoints ex-Senate Presidents, SGF, and governors to strengthen federal institutions nationwide
Abuja, Nigeria (EPICSTORIAN)–President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed ex-senate presidents and other prominent Nigerians to head various federal government agencies.
The move is described as part of an ongoing effort to reform public institutions and enhance leadership across key sectors.
Among the appointees are former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim, and former Governor of Katsina State Ibrahim Shehu Shema.
Ex-Senate Presidents Appointed to Lead Strategic Agencies
According to a statement issued on Friday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the appointments reflect Tinubu’s vision to revitalize federal agencies with experienced political and administrative figures.
Key Positions Assigned by Tinubu
The list includes individuals who have held significant national positions, notably ex-Senate Presidents and other top government veterans.
Ken Nnamani, one of Nigeria’s ex-Senate Presidents, has been appointed Chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his legislative experience in national policy formulation and institutional development.
Another former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, was named Chairman of the National Merit Awards, a body that recognizes exceptional contributions to national development. His selection highlights Tinubu’s continued reliance on seasoned political figures, particularly ex-Senate Presidents, to lead national institutions.
Shema, the former Katsina State governor, will serve as Chairman of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), while Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, has been appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sport.

- Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed – Executive Director (Finance/Admin), NAIC
- Professor Almustapha Alhaji Aliyu – Managing Director, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML)
- Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu – Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-formal Education
- Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya – Chairman, Nigerian Agricultural Land Development Authority
- Tijjani Yahaya Kaura – Director-General, Centre for Citizenship and Leadership Training
- Abdullahi Mohammed – Executive Director (Monitoring and Implementation), Nigeria–Sao Tome Joint Development Authority
- Mohammed Lawal Ibrahim – Executive Director (Finance/Admin), Nigeria–Sao Tome Joint Development Authority
