Nigerian Navy opens new health centre in Rivers, strengthening civil-military community relations and healthcare delivery.
The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated a modern health centre in Odawu Joinkrama III community, located in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The initiative is part of the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme, championed by Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
Rear Admiral Clinton Izu, a key facilitator of the project and native of the area, said the initiative reflects the Navy’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
He noted that similar projects had been successfully executed in Bayelsa and other parts of Nigeria under the same directive.

Rear Admiral Izu explained that the new facility was developed to bridge the gap created by the near-defunct Joinkrama Main Hospital, which dates back to 1936.
The community’s leadership, including HRH Chief Izu B. Izu, had prioritized the establishment of a functional healthcare center to improve access to services.
The Navy’s health centre includes essential infrastructure such as a consulting room, male and female wards, a maternity section, laboratory, pharmacy, immunization point, nursing station, and a borehole water system.
The facility was built in honour of serving Rear Admirals as part of the Navy’s Civil Military Cooperation initiative.
Officials praise Navy’s community development initiative
Representing Vice Admiral Ogalla, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande, Eastern Naval Command chief, highlighted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He emphasized that such civil-military partnerships foster national security and development.
